Drumbeat and Transitions
Stonnington Youth Services staff regularly deliver programs in our local schools focusing on a range of topics to build students resilience and social skills.
SYS Transitions Program is delivered to Grade 6 students in Term 3 or 4 in order to support students and their parents through what can be a challenging time.
The program is delivered across four sessions, addressing: Change, Concerns and Hopes, Interpersonal Skills, Practical Skills and Goal Setting.
In addition to the sessions above, the program also includes a parent information evening covering general information about school refusal, signs to look for if your child is becoming anxious about school, as well as some discussion on what to expect with secondary school.
DRUMBEAT is a structured learning program using drumming to build social and emotional resilience and healthy relationship skills.
DRUMBEAT is generally delivered across ten, one hour sessions. Each session combines hand drumming, rhythm games and discussion. Importantly the program concludes with a performance, giving students the opportunity to showcase their new found skills, confidence and to share their progress with respected people in their lives.
DRUMBEAT has been proven to:
- Increase cooperation in group activities
- Increase emotional regulation, self esteem and self awareness
- Improve interpersonal skills and problem solving skills
- Reduce in anxiety, tension and stress
- Reduce in anti-social behaviour
